Shirana Shahbazi

Shirana Shahbazi (born June 15, 1974 in Tehran ) is an Iranian photographer who emigrated to Germany and lives in Zurich . Her conceptual works, which based on the photo, are assigned to minimalism in postmodern visual arts , have received international attention . In her creative process, a mostly two-dimensional, more or less abstract work of art emerges from photos . The artist's oeuvre still includes poster paintings and Persian silk carpets made using traditional knotting techniques.

Life

Shirana Shahbazi studied photography at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences from 1995–1997 and then continued her studies until 2000 at the Zurich University of the Arts . For a series of color photos taken in Iran - published in 2001 in the Goftare nik photo book - Shirana Shahbazi received the Deutsche Börse Photo Prize in 2002 . Also in 2002 the picture series Der Garten was published . At the 2003 Biennale she presented The Annunciation as an installation .

Shirana Shahbazi founded the Scheherazade ( Persian ) on February 18, 2004 together with the designer Manuel Krebs (* 1970) and the Berlin art critic and documentary director Tirdad Zolghadr (* 1973) شهرزاد, šahrzād ). This is a group of Persian artists living and working in Germany and Switzerland.

In 2019 Shirana Shahbazi will be awarded the Prix ​​Meret Oppenheim .
