The national photo collection
The Nationale Fotosamling ( German Die Nationale Fotosammlung , formerly Det Nationale Fotomuseum ) in the Black Diamond on Slotsholmen Island in downtown Copenhagen is the Danish State Museum of Photography . Visitors interested in photography will find over 50,000 works by Danish and internationally known photographers .
building
The Photo Museum is part of the Danish Royal Library . From the photo at the top right of the article you can see: The Black Diamond on the island shore - with the photo museum in the basement - is a modern extension (or, seen from the water, porch) of the Danish Royal Library.
collection
The Danish National Photo Museum was founded in 1996 and has been housed in the Black Diamond on 520 m² on the K floor since 1999, along with a number of other facilities.
The Danish Royal Library also collects photographic documents of a cultural and historical nature. In the meantime there have been around 18 million photos - thanks to the librarian and photo historian Bjørn Ochsner (1910–1989). The collection on display in the museum, a strict selection of the holdings, reflects the history of photography from its beginnings in the late 1830s to the video-dominated 21st century. For example, the house has the largest collection of daguerreotypes in the Scandinavian region. Historical albums as well as old printed Danish books with pasted photos are another specialty of the museum. The largest Danish collection of photo negatives is also worth mentioning. The latter contains negatives from the workshops of the photographers Holger Damgaard , Julie Laurberg , Rie Nissen, Hans Robertson , Sven Türck , Viggo Rivad and Gregers Nielsen.
The museum has works by Danish photographers and visual artists as well as photos of some well-known foreigners:
