Julie Rasmine Marie Laurberg (born September 7, 1856 in Grenå ; † June 29, 1925 in Ordrup ) was a Danish portrait and architecture photographer and entrepreneur .

Career

Julie, the daughter of the procurator and estate manager Peter Adam Severin Laurberg (1819–1859) and his wife Johanne Jørgine Schou (1824–1907), apprenticed to the portrait painter and photographer Leopold Hartmann and perfected her photography training in Paris and Italy. In 1895 she founded her own studio in downtown Copenhagen on Kongens Nytorv in Magasin du Nord . Although Julie Laurberg largely stayed away from the international photo art scene, she won a silver medal in the photography industry at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 .

In 1907 Julie Laurberg opened the company Julie Laurberg & Gad together with her former student Franziska Gad (1873–1921). As early as 1910, both entrepreneurs were able to trade as royal court photographers .

Julie Laurberg liked to leave the studio and pick up Danish locks. When portraying her customers in the studio, she experimented with diffuse outlines and tried fine printing processes .

Julie Laurberg was a skilled photographer on the board of the Danish Photographic Society and was responsible for technology issues for many years.

As an entrepreneur, she preferred to hire and unionise women. At the beginning of the 20th century she drove the development of copyright law in Denmark .

As a member of the Danish Women's Association founded in 1871, Julie Laurberg made a name for herself as a women's rights activist .

Julie Laurberg - a tall woman - always stayed straight. In her final years, however, when she was in poor health, she would walk with a slight hunch. After Julie Laurberg's death, the photo studio was renamed Julie Laurberg & Gads Eftf. (efterfølgere - successor) continued until 1939.
