Kongens Nytorv
The Kongens Nytorv (German King's Neumarkt or New King's Market ) is the largest square in downtown Copenhagen in Denmark . It connects the Strøget shopping street with the Nyhavn restaurant street .
The Kongens Nytorv was laid out at the behest of King Christian V from 1680 as a representative square on the edge of what was then the old town. The irregular square is still lined by various palaces and public buildings. In the center of an elliptical green area is an equestrian statue of the king created by the sculptor Abraham César Lamoureux , which the Copenhageners simply call "the horse".
Today the square forms an important traffic junction in the Danish capital, here is also the Kongens Nytorv station of the Copenhagen Metro .
