Joachim Koester

Joachim Koester (* 1962 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish conceptual artist , photographer and filmmaker who lives in Copenhagen and New York .

life and work

Joachim Koester graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1994 . His preferred media are photography, sound and video .

In 1997 Koester showed a project at documenta X with the title Day for Night Christiana 1996 . Christiana is the name of a hippie commune founded in 1971 . The first part of this work consists of a series of photographs taken with the technique of the American night . "This trick obscures the clear demarcation between a description of reality and the construction of a fictional area". Message from Andrée (2005) was shown in the Danish pavilion at the Venice Biennale . In 2013 Joachim Koester was awarded the Camera Austria Prize .
