Transmodulation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transmodulation describes the conversion from one type of modulation to another.

Transmodulation is necessary if a signal has to be converted beforehand for technical or economic reasons due to the transmission path or the reception technology. Frequently the frequency range is also changed.

A well-known example of a transmodulation is a cable headend which converts the satellite reception signal into a cable TV signal. This often involves a standard conversion from DVB-S to DVB-C or PAL as well as conversion to the VHF or UHF television channel range.
