John Pentland (born December 24, 1946 ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Political career

Pentland has been a Labor member for over 30 years and a Councilor of North Lanarkshire since 1997 . In the Scottish general election in 2003 Pentland held the first position on the regional electoral list for the electoral region of Central Scotland . Since the Labor Party was unable to send any list candidates due to the election result, in which the Labor candidates alone received nine direct mandates from the ten constituencies in the region, Pentland missed entry into parliament. It was the same in the following parliamentary elections in 2007 . After the former First Minister Jack McConnell no longer ran for the constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw , Pentland ran for the 2011 parliamentary elections and won the mandate just ahead of the SNP candidate . With a loss of votes, Pentland was defeated by SNP candidate Clare Adamson in the general election in 2016 and subsequently left the Scottish Parliament.
