Jack Wilson McConnell, Baron McConnell of Glenscorrodale (born June 30, 1960 in Irvine ) is a British politician. He was First Minister of Scotland from 2001 to 2007 .

He was Chair of the Labor Party in Scotland and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Motherwell and Wishaw from 1999 to 2011. After Henry McLeish resigned due to the Officegate affair , McConnell became First Minister. With McConnell as the top candidate, Labor was able to defend its leading position in the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2003 despite losing seats . In the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2007 , the Scottish National Party (SNP) was just one seat ahead of Labor as the strongest party in the election. McConnell then resigned. In 2010 he was Peer lifetime as Baron McConnell of Glenscorrodale , of the Isle of Arran in Ayrshire and Arran, and in the 28 June 2010 House of Lords introduced.

He is a member of Amnesty International and Friends of the Earth .
