Motherwell ( Gaelic Tobar na Màthar ) is a town in Scotland with 31,906 inhabitants (2011). It is located in North Lanarkshire, southeast of Glasgow . Motherwell used to be the main steel production site in Scotland, which earned Motherwell the nickname “Steelopolis”. In the 1980s and 1990s, however, steel production gradually collapsed, something Motherwell has not yet been able to fully recover from.
