Cathie Craigie (* 1954 in Stirling ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Craigie grew up in Kilsyth and attended Kilsyth Academy . Craigie was a councilor for the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth District from 1984 to 1996 and has served for the past three years.

Political career

In the 1999 Scottish general election , Craigie ran as a Labor Party candidate for the constituency of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth . With a clear lead over the candidate of the SNP , Andrew Wilson , she won the mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the following parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007 , she defended her mandate.

The parliamentary elections in 2011 brought a change of the MP from Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, because the SNP politician Jamie Hepburn succeeded for the first time in winning the constituency for his party. After the Labor Party's massive, nationwide loss of votes in these elections, the party was largely realigned in terms of personnel. In this context, Craigie was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Labor Party's shadow cabinet .
