Lothian is one of the eight Scottish electoral regions for election to the Scottish Parliament . It was created under the Scotland Act of 1998 as the Lothians region . In the course of the revision of the electoral regions in 2011, small areas from the Council Area Midlothian were added to the electoral region South Scotland and the Lothians region was renamed Lothian . Lothian includes the cities of Bathgate , Dalkeith , Edinburgh , Linlithgow , Livingston and Musselburgh . The first elections took place during the parliamentary elections on May 6, 1999.
The Central Scotland region is bordered clockwise and starting in the north: Mid Scotland and Fife , South Scotland and Central Scotland .
Geographical breakdown
The Lothian region comprises nine constituencies from the Edinburgh , West Lothian and Midlothian Council Areas . In terms of naming and design, they corresponded to the constituencies of the British Parliament . Each constituency has a representative determined by majority voting . In addition, seven additional members are elected.

In the course of the revision before the parliamentary elections in 2011, the constituencies and electoral regions were restructured. Here, small parts of the south-east of the Lothians region were slammed into the South of Scotland region and the electoral region was renamed Lothian . According to the new division, the region only comprises nine constituencies.
