Kezia Dugdale (born August 28, 1981 in Aberdeen ) is a former Scottish politician and former member of the Labor Party and the Co-operative Party .

Life

Dugdale attended Harris Academy in Dundee and then studied law at the University of Aberdeen . She then went to Edinburgh University , where she graduated with a Masters in Political Science. Within the party, she worked in the election campaign for Sarah Boyack and Sheila Gilmore . After his election to the Scottish Parliament , she worked for George Foulkes . In April 2016, Dugdale announced that they were living with her partner in Edinburgh . This is Jenny Gilruth , who is a member of the Scottish Parliament for the SNP .

Political career

In the 2011 general election , Dugdale first ran for national elections. She did not apply for the direct mandate of a constituency, but was placed on the Labor Party's regional electoral list for the Lothian electoral region . As a result of the election results, she was one of seven candidates on the electoral list to enter the Scottish Parliament.

As part of the dispute over the leadership position in the Labor Party in the summer of 2016, she supported the challenger Owen Smith against the incumbent Jeremy Corbyn .

From August 2015 to August 2017 she was party leader of the Scottish Labor Party. She resigned from office for personal reasons. In June 2019 she retired from active politics to move to the John Smith Center at the University of Glasgow , and the month after she resigned from the Labor Party. She resigned her parliamentary mandate on July 15. Nachrückerin was Sarah Boyack , who had been already from 1999 to 2016 deputy.
