Alison Johnstone

Alison Johnstone (born October 11, 1965 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish Green Party .

Johnstone attended St. Augustine's High School in Edinburgh. Before her political career, she was the Scottish champion in the 800 and 1500 meters. She has one daughter and lives in Edinburgh with her husband. From 1999 until her election to the Scottish Parliament in 2011, she worked for the Greens MP Robin Harper . She was also an elected member of the Edinburgh City Council from 2007 to 2012.

After Robin Harper did not run for the Scottish General Election in 2011 , Johnstone was placed first on the Scottish Green Party's regional electoral list for the Lothian electoral region . As a result of the election result, the party was able to send a candidate, which Johnstone moved to the Scottish Parliament for the first time . In the 2016 election , she was again on the Lothian regional list in parliament, with the Greens making significant gains nationwide and being able to send 6 MPs, including a second ( Andy Wightman ) from the Lothian region.
