Glasgow Rutherglen was a constituency for the Scottish Parliament . It was introduced in 1999 as one of ten constituencies in the Glasgow electoral region , which was redesigned as part of the constituencies' revision in 2011 and now only comprises nine constituencies. Here the constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen was abolished. It comprised the south-east Glasgow boroughs and densely populated areas of the South Lanarkshire Council Area with the towns of Blantyre , Cambuslang and Rutherglen . In the 2001 census survey, a total of 64,940 people lived within its borders. A deputy was sent. Most of the areas of Glasgow Rutherglen have merged into the new Rutherglen constituency .
