Rutherglen is a constituency for the Scottish Parliament . It was introduced in 2011 as one of nine constituencies in the Glasgow electoral region , which was redesigned as part of the 2011 constituency revision. The Rutherglen constituency was mainly formed from the areas of the former Glasgow Rutherglen constituency. It essentially comprises areas of the South Lanarkshire Council Area with the cities of Blantyre , Cambuslang and Rutherglen and small parts of the south-east Glasgow boroughs. The constituency sends a representative.
The constituency extends over an area of 31.3 km 2 . In the 2011 census survey, a total of 75,912 people lived within its borders.
