Rosie Kane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rosie Kane (born June 5, 1961 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician. She ran for the Scottish Socialist Alliance and the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) in national elections.

Kane attended Lourdes Secondary School in Glasgow and then began studying social sciences, which she did not graduate. Afterwards she worked in various professions, such as a laundry worker, telephone consultant, youth worker and swimming instructor. Kane was the environmental spokesperson for the SSP. She ran several times for a seat on the City Council of Glasgow, but never won the required number of votes.

In the 1997 general election, Kane first ran for national elections. However, she received only 251 votes (0.71%) in her constituency, Glasgow Rutherglen , and thus clearly missed entry into the British House of Commons . For the Scottish parliamentary elections in 1999 , she ran for the SSP in the constituency of Glasgow Shettleston , but could not win the direct mandate. In the 1999 Scottish general election , Labor politician and First Minister Donald Dewar won the direct mandate of the Glasgow Anniesland constituency . However, he died on October 11, 2000, which is why new elections were held in the constituency on November 23, 2000. Kane ran for Glasgow Anniesland for the first time in these elections, but clearly missed the direct mandate. Once again she ran for Glasgow Shettleston in the 2003 general election , but again did not receive a majority vote. As in 1999, however, she was second behind Tommy Sheridan on the regional electoral list of the SSP for the electoral region of Glasgow , which was sufficient in the 2003 elections to gain a seat in the Scottish Parliament as a representative of the electoral region . In the 2007 general election she was placed first on the regional electoral list, but the party did not get enough votes to send a candidate, which Kane lost her parliamentary seat.
