Humza Yousaf

Humza Yousaf (born April 7, 1985 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Yousaf attended Hutchesons Grammar School and then the University of Glasgow , which he left with a master's degree in politics. Prior to his election to the Scottish Parliament , Yousaf helped with various nonprofit and charitable organizations and institutions and was involved in community work. He also worked for MP Bashir Ahmad until his death in 2009 .

In the Scottish general elections in 2011 , Yousaf was a candidate for the SNP on the electoral list for the Glasgow electoral region . As a result of the election result, he moved into parliament alongside Bob Doris as one of two list candidates for the SNP in the electoral region. In the Sturgeon I cabinet , Yousaf acted as State Secretary for Europe and International Development. In the Sturgeon II cabinet , Yousaf served as State Secretary for Transport and the Islands from 2016 to 2018. He has been the Scottish Minister of Justice since 2018. In the 2016 general election , Yousaf ran for the constituency of Glasgow Pollok . He prevailed against the Labor candidate Johann Lamont , who had represented the constituency since the Scottish Parliament was established in 1999.
