Alasdair Allan
Alasdair Allan (born May 6, 1971 ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
Life
Allan graduated from Glasgow University with a Masters degree . He then did his PhD in Scots at the University of Aberdeen . Before joining the Scottish Parliament, Allan was a regular contributor to newspapers in Gaelic and was named Gaelic-Speaking Journalist of the Year in 2006.
Political career
For the first time Allan appeared in the 2001 general election to national elections. In his constituency, Aberdeen North , he received the second highest percentage of votes and thus missed entry into the House of Commons . In the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2003 , Allan applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Gordon , but could only unite the third highest number of votes. In 2007 , Allan ran in the Western Isles constituency . He defeated the mandate holder and Labor politician Alasdair Morrison and entered the Scottish Parliament for the first time . In the 2011 parliamentary elections he defended his mandate. He was appointed Secretary of State for Education, Science and the Scottish Language in 2011. Despite losing votes, Allan maintained his mandate in the 2016 elections . Subsequently he was appointed State Secretary for International Development and Europe. He resigned from this post in June 2018.
