Aileen Campbell

Aileen Campbell (born May 18, 1980 in Perth ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Campbell attended Collace Primary School and the Perth Academy . She then studied political science, economics and social history at the University of Glasgow and graduated with a Masters . She then worked as an editor. Campbell lives in Biggar with her husband and son .

Political career

In 2005 and 2006 Campbell worked for SNP MPs Nicola Sturgeon and Shona Robison . Campbell first appeared in the 2007 general election to national elections. In her constituency of Clydesdale , she received the second highest percentage of votes behind Labor candidate Karen Gillon and thus missed the direct mandate of the constituency. However, since Campbell was also set on the regional electoral list of the SNP for the electoral region South of Scotland , she received one of five list mandates of the SNP in this electoral region and moved into the Scottish Parliament as a result of the election result .

In the 2011 parliamentary elections , she won the direct mandate of the Clydesdale constituency by a clear margin. In the newly formed cabinet, Campbell holds the position of Secretary of State for Children and Young People, which she held until the end of the electoral term. In the parliamentary elections in 2016 Campbell defended its mandate. In the newly formed parliament, she took the position of State Secretary for Public Health and Sport .
