Karen Gillon

Karen Gillon , née Karen Turnbull , (born August 18, 1967 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Gillon attended Jedburgh Grammar School and then studied at Birmingham University . In the following years she worked in youth work, then for public educational projects. She is married and has two sons and a daughter. She is also a member of the UNISON union .

Political career

Since 1997, Gillon was for the lower house deputies the constituency Airdrie and Shotts , Helen Liddell operate. In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Gillon first ran for national elections. With a clear lead she won the direct mandate of her constituency of Clydesdale and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the following parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007 , she defended her mandate. Finally, she lost in the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011 the SNP contestant Aileen Campbell and resigned from parliament.
