Joe FitzPatrick

Joe FitzPatrick (born April 1, 1967 in Dundee ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

FitzPatrick attended Whitfield High School in Dundee. Then he studied forest science at Inverness College and moved to Abertay University and the University of Dundee . During his studies he was involved in the National Union of Students Scotland .

Political career

In the SNP FitzPatrick first was for the MPs Shona Robison and her husband, the lower house MPs Stewart Hosie operates. He was elected to Dundee City Council in 1999 and confirmed in 2003. In the general election in 2005 , FitzPatrick ran for the direct mandate of the constituency of Dundee West , but was defeated by Labor candidate Jim McGovern . For the Scottish general election in 2007 FitzPatrick succeeded Irene McGugan in the constituency of Dundee West . He won the direct mandate and entered the Scottish Parliament for the first time . As part of the 2011 constituency reform, the Dundee West constituency was dissolved and largely replaced by the newly created Dundee City West constituency , for which FitzPatrick ran in the 2011 general election. Again he won the direct mandate.

He is Secretary of State for Public Health, Sports and Welfare in the Department of Health and Sports in the Sturgeon II Cabinet and is therefore a member of the Scottish Government .
