Fergus Ewing

Fergus Ewing (born September 23, 1957 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Ewing attended the Loretto School in Musselburgh and then studied law at the University of Glasgow . He then worked as a solicitor and then as a lawyer. Fergus Ewing is the son of politician Winnie Ewing , husband of politician Margaret Ewing and brother of Annabelle Ewing .

Political career

For the first time Ewing appeared in the general election in 1992 to national elections. In the constituency of Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber , he received the third highest number of votes after the Liberal Democrat David Russell Johnston and the Labor candidate David John Stewart . Before the 1997 general election , the constituencies were redesigned and Ewing ran in the newly created constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber . However, since he received only the second largest share of the vote behind David Stewart, he again missed the entry into the British House of Commons .

In the 1999 general election , Ewing ran in the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber , was able to win the direct mandate just before the Labor candidate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007 , Ewing defended his mandate. Between 2007 and 2011 Ewing was Minister for Community Safety. In the course of constituency reform in 2011, the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber was dissolved. Parts of the old constituency went into the new constituency Inverness and Nairn , for which Ewing ran in the 2011 general election. He won the direct mandate with a clear lead over the Labor candidate. In the new cabinet he was appointed Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism.
