Margaret Ewing

Margaret Ewing (* 1945 in Lanark as Margaret McAdam; † March 21, 2006 ) was a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Ewing attended Biggar High School and then studied at the University of Glasgow , the University of Strathclyde and Jordanhill College . Margaret Ewing was the wife of the politician Fergus Ewing and sister-in-law of Annabelle Ewing .

British House of Commons

For the first time, Ewing, after her first husband as Margaret Bain, ran for national elections in the general election in October 1974 . She won the direct mandate of the constituency of East Dunbartonshire with 22 votes ahead of the conservative Barry Henderson . She lost her parliamentary seat in the 1979 general election . At the end of the legislature, the constituency of East Dunbartonshire was dissolved and Ewing stood in the 1983 general election for the constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden . However, it only received the fourth highest number of votes. In the lower house elections in 1987 , Ewing won the direct mandate of the Moray constituency and moved back into the lower house. She defended her mandate in the subsequent elections in 1992 and 1997 . At the general election in 2001 Ewing came not. Your party colleague Angus Robertson was able to win the constituency for itself.

Scottish Parliament

In the 1999 parliamentary elections , Ewing ran in the constituency of Moray . She won the direct mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the 2003 parliamentary elections , Ewing defended her mandate. Ewing later announced that he would not run again in the following parliamentary elections. She died in the spring of 2006 of breast cancer, for which she had previously been treated.

In the subsequent by-elections on April 27, 2006, Ewing's party colleague Richard Lochhead was able to clearly win the mandate.
