Richard Lochhead
Richard Lochhead (born May 24, 1969 in Paisley ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP). He is married with two sons and lives in Elgin .
Life
Lochhead attended Williamson High School in Glasgow and earned an HNC in Economics from Glasgow Central College of Commerce . He then studied politics at the University of Stirling and graduated with a bachelor's degree . Between 1994 and 1998 he worked for the then House of Commons and later First Minister Alex Salmond .
Political career
Lochhead first appeared in the 1999 general election to national elections. He ran in the constituency of Aberdeen Central , but could not win the direct mandate against the Labor candidate Lewis MacDonald . However, since Lochhead was also placed on the SNP's regional electoral list for the electoral region of North East Scotland , he succeeded in entering the newly created Scottish Parliament as one of seven list candidates for the electoral region. In the 2003 general election , Lochhead once again missed Aberdeen Central's direct mandate, but defended his list mandate for North East Scotland.
On March 21, 2006, the member of the Moray constituency , Margaret Ewing , died, which is why by-elections were held in this constituency on April 27, 2006. In order to run for this election, Lochhead gave back his mandate, which was taken over by his party colleague Maureen Watt until the end of the legislature . In the by-election, Lochhead received the largest share of the vote and thus won the direct mandate of the constituency. He defended his mandate in the following parliamentary elections in 2007 and 2011 . Lochhead has been Minister for Environment and Rural Affairs since 2007.
