Cuca Roseta (born December 2, 1981 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese fado singer.

Career

She grew up in a household where fado was not an issue. It wasn't until she was 18, after her first visit to a fado bar, that she began to be interested in the style. In the meantime she sang in the successful pop / rock project Toranja . After completing her psychology degree, she sang more and more in fado bars. There she heard the veteran fadista João Braga , who invited her to a TV show on the RTP .

As a result, her fame increased, and she was engaged in the Clube de Fado . Here they heard the Argentinean producer and two-time Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla . He arranged recordings with her.

In Carlos Saura's film “ Fados ” from 2007, she played the original Fado singer Maria Severa with a song . From then on she was also known internationally as “the new voice of Fado”. In 2010 she sang on invitation for Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Lisbon.

Her debut album was released in 2011. It was produced by Santaolalla and recorded in Lisbon , Buenos Aires and Los Angeles . The partly self-written songs, partly reinterpreted classics were arranged by Mário Pacheco , who also accompanied Roseta on the Portuguese guitar (as in the film Fados ). The album rose to number 12 on the charts, where it was held for 4 weeks.

In the summer of 2013 their second album Raíz (German: root) was released. The 14 new pieces produced by the renowned jazz musician and music producer Mário Barreiros were co-produced by Cuca Roseta. She wrote largely all the songs and texts, except for the poem Fado da Vaidade ( Eng .: Fado of vanity) by the writer Florbela Espanca (1894–1930), and a poem by José Avillez , to which Tozé Brito wrote the music . André Sardet also wrote the music for Cuca Roseta's Fado do Perdão . The album, presented again by the public radio station Antena 1 , reached the Portuguese top 10.
