Barry Henderson (born April 29, 1936 ) is a British politician .

Political career

Henderson first appeared in the 1970 general election to national elections. He ran for the Conservative Party for the mandate of the constituency of East Dunbartonshire , but could not prevail against the Labor candidate Hugh McCartney . Although his share of the vote in the following elections in February 1974 was reduced by 0.3%, he achieved a majority in the constituency in these elections and subsequently entered the British House of Commons for the first time . In the elections in October of the same year, Henderson was defeated by the SNP candidate Margaret Bain by a difference of only 21 votes and left the House of Commons after only six months.

After Henderson's party colleague John Gilmour , who represented the constituency of East Fife since 1961, ran for no further term, Henderson was chosen as his successor. He clearly prevailed against his opponents and moved into the lower house once more. In the wake of constituency reform in 1983, the East Fife constituency was dissolved. Henderson therefore ran in the 1983 general election for the mandate of the newly created constituency of North East Fife , which includes parts of the former constituency. Henderson prevailed against the liberal Menzies Campbell , among others . Between 1984 and 1987 he held the post of Parliamentary Private Secretary in Parliament . In the 1987 elections, however, he was defeated by Campbell and left the British House of Commons. A total of 1,279 contributions by Henderson are recorded in Parliament.
