A Morning Stroll is a 2011 British animated short film directed by Grant Orchard .

action

One morning in New York City in 1959: traffic flows calmly on the streets, a man collides with a passer-by and apologizes briefly, and a chicken turns the corner. The man watches in amazement as the chicken hops down the street, jumps up a few steps to a house entrance, knocks on the door with its beak and is finally let in.

In 2009 it is rush hour in the morning . A teenager listening to music on his smartphone runs into a woman who spills her coffee on her shirt. The young man ignores her. When a chicken turns the corner, however, he stops and wants to use his smartphone to take a picture of the chicken, which is now jumping up the steps to the front door. He comes across a zombie app that he starts to play. When he returns to taking pictures, the chicken has already disappeared. In front of him stands the angry woman and the youngster hurries on.

The year 2059 has no moving cars, just car wrecks. A zombie-like person staggers along the street with a brain half bulging out of his oversized head, when suddenly the chicken comes around the corner. It jumps past the creature and suddenly turns around to face it. The zombie's brain bursts a little further out of the skull and the zombie suddenly mutates into a fury with bulging eyes. He pursues the fleeing chicken with bared teeth and even crawls after him under a car. This is exactly how the chicken manages to draw attention to itself by eagerly pecking at the front door and to be let in. The zombie lands on the slammed door and dies in an enormous pool of blood. Inside, a man who resembles the simple drawing style of the 1959 episode closes the door with numerous locks and shows himself relieved. However, he accuses the chicken, which begins to peck in its feed bowl, for its morning excursions.

background

The film was initially intended as a one-minute animation project by Studio Aka to test animation skills. However, through the influence of Sue Goffe, the studio's production manager, it became a short film project. The short film was part of a series of side projects of the studio, which actually specializes in advertising.

The premiere of The Morning Stroll found on 27 September 2011 at the Edmonton International Film Festival instead. The action of the film is based on the joke “Why did the chicken cross the road?” (Eng .: “Why did the chicken cross the road?”). It is also loosely based on a true story described by Paul Auster in his book True Tales of American Life .

Awards

A Morning Stroll won the Best Animated Short Film Award at the Edmonton International Film Festival . The film received the award for Best Animated Short at the Sundance Film Festival 2012 and won the British Academy Film Award 2012 in the category Best Animated Short . The film was also nominated for an Oscar 2012 in the category Best Animated Short Film.
