Stewart Hosie

Stewart Hosie (born January 3, 1963 ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Hosie attended Bracken Primary School , Invertay Primary School , Carnoustie High School and a technical college that is now part of Abertay University . There he obtained a degree in computer science. Hosie was then self-employed in the IT industry for twenty years. He is married to the SNP politician Shona Robison . The couple have a daughter.

Political career

From 1986 to 1989 Hosie was chairman of the youth organization of the SNP. For the first time he appeared in the general election in 1992 to elections at the national level. He ran for the constituency of Kirkcaldy , which he clearly missed in both 1992 and the 1997 elections .

In the first elections to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, Hosie applied for the mandate of the constituency of the same name Kirkcaldy , but could not prevail against the Labor candidate Marilyn Livingstone . In the 2001 general election , Hosie ran in the constituency of Dundee East . This time he was defeated by Iain Luke of the Labor Party.

For the first time, Hosie won a seat in the House of Commons in the 2005 general election , after narrowly beating six opponents in the constituency of Dundee East. In the following general election in 2010 and general election in 2015 he defended his mandate. After the previous deputy party chairman Nicola Sturgeon became first minister in 2014 , Hosie moved up to the post of deputy party chairman.

During his first term in office, Hosie was party spokesman for women , domestic politics , finance and economics . From 2001 he was deputy group leader in the British Parliament and held the position of Whips . On May 22, 2016, Hosie resigned from the post of deputy SNP party chairman after details of an extramarital affair were circulated in the press.

Despite losing votes, Hosie maintained his constituency mandate in the early 2017 general election.
