Iain Luke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iain Luke (* 8. October 1951 ) is a Scottish politician of the Labor Party .

Life

Luke was born in Dundee in 1951, the son of a caretaker. He attended Stobswell Boys' Junior School and Harris Academy in Dundee. After serving in tax enforcement for five years, Luke studied at Dundee University and subsequently lectured for 18 years.

Political career

Luke was a member of the Dundee Regional Council for the Labor Party for 17 years. After John McAllion , who had represented Dundee East constituency in the House of Commons since 1987 , received a seat in this House in the first elections to the Scottish Parliament , he did not run for any further term in the 2001 general election . The Labor Party replaced Luke. Although he lost 5.9% of the vote compared to the last McAllion election, he won the mandate and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time. In the following general election in 2005 he was unable to prevail against the SNP candidate Stewart Hosie after further loss of votes , against whom he had clearly won in the previous elections. In Parliament 226 speeches were recorded by Luke.

In the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2007 Luke ran again in the constituency of Dundee East for a seat in this House. But he could not prevail against the incumbent SNP politician Shona Robison .
