Charles Gordon (politician)
Charles Gordon , usually called Charlie Gordon , (* in Partick , Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .
Life
Gordon is the youngest of his parents' seven children. At the age of 15 he graduated from school and began an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He later attended college and university. In total, Gordon spent 19 years in the railroad industry. He has been a member of the Labor Party and the GMB union for several decades .
Political career
Between 1987 and 1998 Gordon was a member of the Strathclyde Regional Council and between 1995 and 2007 the Glasgow City Council. In the Scottish general elections in 1999 and 2003 , Michael Watson won the direct seat of the Glasgow Cathcart constituency . After he was convicted of arson in 2005, new elections had to be held in the constituency. Gordon took over as Watson's successor. He won the direct mandate by a clear margin over the SNP candidate and entered the Scottish Parliament for the first time in 2005 . In the 2007 parliamentary elections , he defended his mandate and recorded slight votes. Although Gordon was able to slightly increase his share of the vote in the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2011 , the direct mandate went to the SNP candidate James Dornan and Gordon left parliament.
