James Dornan (born March 17, 1953 ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Dornan attended St Mirin's Primary School and Holyrood Secondary School in Glasgow .

Political career

For the first time Dornan appeared in the general election in 2005 for national elections. He ran for the SNP in the Glasgow South West constituency , but was only able to get the second highest number of votes behind Labor politician Ian Davidson and thus missed the entry into the House of Commons . In 2007 he was elected to the Glasgow City Council.

In the same year he ran in the Scottish general election in the constituency of Glasgow Cathcart , whose direct mandate, however, won the Labor candidate Charles Gordon . In the 2011 parliamentary elections , Dornan finally won the direct mandate of Glasgow Cathcart with a lead of around 1,600 votes over Gordon and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time . Dornan defended his direct mandate in the following general election in 2016 .
