The Welsh Liberal Democrats ( Welsh Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru , dt. Welsh Liberal Democrats ) are one of the three state parties within the federal British Liberal Democrats , the other are the Scottish Liberal Democrats and the English Liberal Democrats . The Welsh Liberal Democrats is the fifth largest party in Wales and has had 1 seat in the Welsh Parliament since 2016 .
History and present
After the founding of the National Assembly for Wales in 1999, the Welsh Liberal Democrats consistently achieved fourth place in the elections to the Welsh National Assembly. In a defeat in the 2016 National Assembly elections for Wales, one was reduced to a single Member of Parliament, the party was overtaken by UKIP and is now only the fifth largest party. It currently controls only one of the 60 seats, this seat won through the First Past the Post system.
