Election to the National Assembly for Wales 2003
The election to the National Assembly for Wales 2003 was the second election to the National Assembly in Cardiff, which was newly established in 1999, and took place on May 1, 2003 . The parliamentary elections in Scotland took place on the same day . In Wales, 60 MPs were elected, 40 of them in constituencies by relative majority voting and 20 through party lists in five regions. After the re-election of the Plaid MP Lord (Dafydd) Elis-Thomas as President of Parliament (acting neutrally and not entitled to vote), Labor achieved a wafer-thin majority and formed a sole government under the re-elected First Minister Rhodri Morgan . After Labor MP Peter Law left at the beginning of 2005, the Labor government lost its majority and ruled with varying majorities until the end of the legislative period.
