Kenneth Macintosh

Kenneth Macintosh , mostly Ken or Kenny Macintosh , (born January 15, 1962 in Inverness ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish Labor Party .

Life

Macintosh attended the Royal High School in Edinburgh and then studied history at the University of Edinburgh . He then worked from 1987 to 1999 as a producer in the news sector for the BBC . He is a father of six and lives in Busby with his wife .

Political career

In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Macintosh ran for the first time to national elections. He ran for the Eastwood constituency direct mandate and won it just ahead of the Conservative candidate . Macintosh defended its mandate for Eastwood in the 2003 , 2007 and 2011 general election . In 2007, Macintosh initially acted as party spokesman for education and young people for four months in parliament and then as deputy party spokesman for schools until the end of the legislative period. In the legislative period from 2011 to 2016, he held various positions in the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , including a. for education, finance and social affairs.

After Macintosh was interested in running for chairmanship of the Scottish Labor Party in 2008, it ran in 2011 and 2015, but was unable to prevail over its competitors on both occasions. In the general election in 2016 , Macintosh lost its direct mandate for Eastwood, but moved back to parliament as a member of the list via the West Scotland regional list. On May 12, 2016, he was elected Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament in the third ballot . Since the President of Parliament has traditionally been strictly neutral, Macintosh has since suspended its Labor membership.
