Janet Royall
Janet Anne Royall, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon PC (born August 20, 1955 in Gloucester ) is a British politician with the Labor Party .
Life
After her school years at the Royal Forest of Dean Grammar School studied Royall Spanish and French at Westfield College of the University of London . She completed her studies in 1977 as a Bachelor of Arts . After graduating, she became an advisor to Labor Party politician Neil Kinnock in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2002 she applied within the party as a Labor candidate for the by-election to the House of Commons in the constituency of Ogmore in Bridgend County Borough , but was defeated by Huw Irranca-Davies .
On June 25, 2004, she was raised as Baroness Royall of Blaisdon , of Blaisdon in the County of Gloucestershire , to Life Peeress and thereby became a member of the House of Lords . From October 3, 2008 to May 11, 2010, Royall was Leader of the House of Lords , a member of Gordon Brown's cabinet . From June 5, 2009 she was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster . With the resignation of Gordon Brown as Prime Minister, she left the government.
Royall was married to Stuart Hercock until his death and has three children.
In February 2017, her election to succeed Alice Prochaska as Principal of Somerville College, Oxford , was announced.
