James Mark Dakin Purnell (born March 2, 1970 in London ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ). In 2016 he was appointed head of radio for the BBC .

Between 2001 and 2010 he was a member of the British House of Commons for the constituency of Stalybridge and Hyde , and from 2008 to 2009 he was also Minister for Labor and Pensions in the government of Gordon Brown .
