Stratená (until 1948 in Slovak "Ztratená"; German Verlorenseifen , Hungarian Sztracena ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia . It is located in the Hnilec ( Göllnitz ) valley in the Slovak Paradise Mountains , about 34 kilometers north-west of Rožňava .
history
The community is relatively young, it was first mentioned in writing in 1723. The mining of copper, nickel and cobalt ores began here as early as the 16th century, and in 1723 the Csáky family had blast furnaces installed here for smelting them. These passed into the possession of the Coburg family in 1840 . In 1927 the ironworks were closed due to unprofitable.
Sights and general information
The Catholic chapel from 1909, which was built in neo-Gothic style and contains a sculpture of the kneeling Maria Magdalena, is particularly worth seeing.
In addition to the main town, the community is divided into the district Dobšinská Ľadová Jaskyňa (German Dobschauer Ice Cave ), which is up the valley west of the main town.
The place is also a starting point to various gorges in the Slovak Paradise National Park . To the west of the village is a 326 m long road tunnel on Hauptstrasse 67 . The small community also has a train station by the ice cave and a stop at the main town on the Margecany – Červená Skala railway line .
Name of the place
The Slovak and German names are based on the term "lost" (Slovak "stratený") and refer to the karst phenomena near the place where a stream suddenly disappears, ie "gets lost" and suddenly reappears elsewhere. The word “soap”, on the other hand, indicates the early gold panning in the area.
