geography
Gemerská Poloma is located on the upper course of the river Slaná (German Salza ) in its valley in the Slovak Ore Mountains , more precisely in the lower part of Volovské vrchy . The Slovak Karst is located south of the municipality. Coming from the north flows the Súľovský potok , a left tributary of Slaná. The village is located nine kilometers northwest of Rožňava .
history
Today's community was created in 1958 through the merger of the following places: Malá Poloma (German Klein-Poloma ) and Veľká Poloma (German Groß-Poloma ).
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1282 as Vezueres and was an estate of the Bebek family. In the late 14th century the place was divided into Malá Poloma and Veľká Polomam, which belonged to the estate of the Krásna Hôrka Castle since the 16th century . In the Middle Ages the main occupations were coal distillery, trade, sheep-keeping, forestry and trucking. In 1557 both places were occupied by attacking Ottomans and were affected several times during this time.
After 1918 the place previously in the Kingdom of Hungary ( Gemer and Kleinhont counties ) came to what was then Czechoslovakia . During the Slovak National Uprising on October 16, 1944, a Soviet plane crashed on Mount Flós, killing 18 soldiers.
