Jablonov nad Turňou , Hungarian Szádalmás (until 1973 Slovak "Jablonov nad Turnou" - until 1927 only "Jablonov"; Hungarian until 1907 Almás , sometimes also Tornaalmás ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with 736 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) which belongs to the Okres Rožňava , a district of the Košický kraj .

Pass near Jablonov nad Turňou

The municipality is located at the western end of the small Turnianska kotlina basin , between two foothills of the Slovak Karst , below the Jablonovské sedlo saddle and near the Hungarian border. The Turňa flows south of the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 241  m nm and is 17 kilometers from Rožňava and 52 kilometers from Košice .

Neighboring municipalities are Drnava and Kováčová in the north, Hrhov in the east, Bódvaszilas and Szöliget (both in Hungary) in the south, Hrušov in the west and Lipovník in the north-west.

history

The place belonged to the estate of the nearby Tornau Castle and the Pleissnitz branch of the Bebek family . According to some sources, the first written mention comes from the years 1332-1335, while others only give the year 1430 (as Almas ). In the 16th century the village was owned by the Szádvár Castle in today's Hungary. In 1828 there were 136 houses and 695 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture, fruit growing and viticulture.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County (previously Torna County ) belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, 808 inhabitants lived in Jablonov nad Turňou, including 650 Magyars, 129 Slovaks and one Czech. 28 residents gave no answer. 378 residents supported the Reformed Church, 335 residents the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents the Greek Catholic Church, five residents the Evangelical Methodist Church, four residents the Evangelical Church AB and two residents the Orthodox Church. 25 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 49 residents was not determined.
