Dobšiná (until 1927 in Slovak "Dobšina"; German Dobschau , Hungarian Dobsina , Latin Dobsinium ) is a town in eastern Slovakia .
It is located in the mountains of the eastern Slovak Ore Mountains on a tributary of the Slaná ( Dobschauer Bach / Dobšinský potok ) between the Rauschenbacher Bergland ( Revúcka vrchovina ) and the Volovecer Mountains . The famous Dobschauer Ice Cave is located on the territory of the city.
history
The formerly German-influenced town with a mining tradition was first mentioned in writing as Dobsina in 1326 , when a Schulze Nikolaus is mentioned and the new community is guaranteed the carpenter's right . The mining settlement mainly extracted copper, gold, silver and iron ore. It was granted market rights in 1417, but there is no evidence that it is a town.
During the Turkish raids and the anti-Habsburg uprisings, the city suffered badly, and later robber baronism was added. In the first half of the 16th century the Lutheran Reformation took place in the city , mainly between the German residents, later so-called Bulinians .
In 1874 the Rosenau – Dobschin railway line was opened. The decline of mining in the 19th century led to the strong shrinking of the community, which lost about 1/3 of the population, mostly the Germans. Around 1900 there were 5115 inhabitants, in 1930 there were only 4681 inhabitants (1291 of them Germans). The Carpathian German population was expelled in 1945. Many of the expelled Germans from Dobschau were murdered in 1945, after the end of the war, in a massacre of the inmates of a refugee train in the Prerau train station .

Hill climb
Since 1970 there has been a hill climb in which the "local mountain" Dobšinský Kopec has to be conquered.
