Ardovo (Hungarian Pelsőcardó or Ardó ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 163 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, a circle kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located on the edge of the karst plateau Silická planina within the Slovak Karst . A small stream flows through Ardovo. The municipality is hilly with scattered forest areas; south of the main town is the entrance to the Ardovská jaskyňa cave . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 277 m nm and is 22 kilometers from Rožňava .
Neighboring municipalities are Plešivec in the west and north, Silická Brezová in the east, Dlhá Ves in the south and Bohúňovo in the south-west.
history
In the Neolithic period there was a settlement of the Bükk culture in what is now the municipality , later settlements of the Piliny culture and the Puchau culture .
Ardovo was first mentioned in writing in 1243 as Erdes and developed from an older settlement founded by royal keepers . In the same year the village was owned by the Bebek family , as it was in 1427, when there were 31 portals in the village . In the Middle Ages there was a lead mine in the municipality. From the middle of the 16th century the village was subject to tribute to the Turks, in 1682 it was so badly devastated by an army that the settlement remained deserted until 1740. In 1828 there were 30 houses and 254 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were charcoal burning and sheep farming.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, 159 inhabitants lived in Ardovo, 94 of them Magyars and 65 Slovaks .
57 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 22 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, 19 residents to the Reformed Church and eight residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 50 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for three residents.
