Vyšná Slaná (German Obersalzberg , Hungarian Felsősajó ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 463 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, part kraj Košický heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains on the upper reaches of the Slaná , more precisely in the Stolické vrchy . In addition to the Slaná, the Dolina and Šajba brooks also flow through the village . The highest point of the municipality is the Veľký Radzim mountain with 991  m nm. The town center is at an altitude of 491  m nm and is eight kilometers from Dobšiná and 28 kilometers from Rožňava .

Neighboring municipalities are Dobšiná in the north, Vlachovo in the east, Kobeliarovo in the southeast, Brdárka in the south and Rejdová in the west.

history

Vyšná Slaná was first mentioned in writing in 1362 as Sayowfey and was then owned by the Bebek family from Štítnik . The settlement, which was settled by German colonization , was characterized by mining from the beginning , although Wallachians came in the 15th century who were mainly employed as shepherds. In 1427 38 porta were recorded in a tax register. Around the middle of the 16th century, the Andrássy family became the new owners of the local estates. In 1828 there were 61 houses and 582 inhabitants who were employed as miners, hammer mill workers, shepherds and charcoal burners.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. The last mine still working was closed in 1975.

According to the 2011 census, Vyšná Slaná had 510 inhabitants, 496 of whom were Slovaks and one German . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

412 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 27 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Greek Catholic Church and two residents to the Reformed Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 36 residents had no denomination and 29 residents had no denomination.
