Bôrka (until 1965 Slovak "Borka", Hungarian Barka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 595 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, part kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located between the Slovak Karst and the Slovak Ore Mountains in the source area of the Čremošná brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 564 m nm and is 21 kilometers from Rožňava .
Neighboring municipalities are Hačava in the north and northeast, Háj in the east, Zádiel and Dvorníky-Včeláre in the southeast, Hrhov in the south and Lúčka in the west.
history
Bôrka was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1409 as Barka and at that time belonged to the estate of Tornau Castle . In 1828 there were 72 houses and 591 inhabitants who were employed as miners, wood processors, farmers and cattle farmers. In the 19th century a charcoal burner and a saw worked in the village.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties (until 1881 in Torna counties ) belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then became part of Czechoslovakia and now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, 516 people lived in Bôrka, of whom 291 were Roma , 163 Magyars , 42 Slovaks and one German and one Czech . 18 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
408 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 81 residents the Reformed Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB. Six residents were non-denominational and 20 residents had no denomination.
Attractions
- Roman Catholic church Maria vom Berg Karmel in mixed baroque-classical style from 1759, which was built on the site of the older Gothic church. The main altar is designed in the neoclassical style, the pulpit in the late Baroque style.
- Reformed church in classicist style from 1794, with the tower from 1804
- Imrich Károlyi country castle in neo-baroque style from the end of the 19th century
Among the natural sights are the Zádielska tiesňava gorge , which is partly located in the municipality, and the 45-meter Snežná diera (literally snow hole), which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.
