Roštár (German Rester , Hungarian Rester ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 631 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, part kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the valley of the Hankovský creek in the catchment area of the Štítnik . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 324 m nm and is 17 kilometers from Rožňava .
Neighboring municipalities are Koceľovce in the north, Petrovo in the northeast, Nižná Slaná in the east, Štítnik in the south and Ochtiná in the west.
history
Roštár was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1318 as Rester , but emerged as a mining settlement in the second half of the 13th century. It was owned by the Bebek family , who owned 33 portals in the village in 1427 . At that time the main sources of income were mining and work in hammer mills. From the 17th century, several families of the lower nobility changed ownership of the place, while agriculture became the main source of income. In 1828 there were 48 houses and 378 inhabitants who were employed as carters, farmers, workers in industrial plants and as seasonal workers. In 1869 the whole village burned down.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Roštár had 553 inhabitants, of whom 460 were Slovaks , 58 Roma , six Magyars and one Czech . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 27 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
230 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 27 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and three residents to the Reformed Church. 254 residents had no denomination and 39 residents had no denomination.
Buildings and monuments
- Protestant church in Gothic style from the last quarter of the 13th century, originally Roman Catholic St. Andrew's Church. After a fire in 1689, the interior is largely designed in the Baroque style and at the same time received the interior fittings that still exist today. The dry painting is badly damaged.
