Plešivec , in Hungarian Pelsőc (German Pleissnitz - older also Pleschnitz ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 2275 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The village is located in the valley of the Slaná River at its confluence with the Štítnik River at the foot of the Slovak Karst , 17 km from Rožňava and 44 km from Rimavská Sobota . There are partially three high plateaus in the cadastral area: Koniar, Plešivská planina and Silická planina.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Plesouch in 1243 . In 1328 it was granted city rights, and in 1558 it was occupied by the Turks. It is one of the historical administrative headquarters of Gemer County (18th and partly 19th centuries) and was therefore part of the Kingdom of Hungary in the aforementioned county until 1918 . Then it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia , but had to be ceded to Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration 1938-1945 . In 1898 a psychiatric institution was founded by Samuel Blum. This institution was expanded under his son Rudolf Blum and his wife Flora and later by Jan Horak and Flóra Blumová-Horáková (marriage after the death of the first husband), the clinic still exists today.

The place has a train station on the Zvolen – Košice railway line . The local routes to Muráň and Slavošovce branch off at the village. The main road 50 (Zvolen – Rožňava – Košice) runs past the place.
