Čučma (Hungarian Csucsom ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 609 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, part kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the Rožňavská kotlina basin within the Slovak Karst at the transition to the northern Volovské vrchy , which are part of the Slovak Ore Mountains . The small Drázus stream flows through Čučma . The highest point of the municipality is the mountain Skalisko with 1293 m nm. The town center is at an altitude of 391 m nm and is four kilometers away from Rožňava .
Neighboring communities are Henclová in the north, Rožňava in the east, south and southwest and Betliar in the west.
history
The place was founded in the first half of the 14th century on a piece of land that a certain Michael from Nadabula received from the Archdiocese of Gran for his services. The village is mentioned in a document from 1339 in which it received certain privileges, such as the choice of its own judge. On the other hand, Čučma belonged to the dominion of the Archdiocese of Gran (until 1776) and was temporarily united with the city of Rosenau.
The main source of income for centuries was mining, with an emphasis on gold, silver and copper ore mining in the Middle Ages, later iron ore, and from the 17th century antimony and manganese ore. In 1776 ownership changed to the newly founded bishopric of Rosenau . In 1828 there were 86 houses and 433 inhabitants.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration . The last mines were closed in 1952 due to a lack of profitability.
From 1960 to 1990, Čučma was a part of Rožňava.
population
According to the 2011 census, 652 people lived in Čučma, of whom 372 were Slovaks , 271 Magyars and two Roma and two Czechs . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
210 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 96 residents for the Evangelical Church AB, 35 residents for the Reformed Church, 12 residents for the Evangelical Methodist Church, five residents for the Baptists, four residents each for the Jehovah's Witnesses and four residents for the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church and one to the Orthodox Church; four residents professed a different denomination. 237 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.
