Gočovo (German Goldshof or Helbesdorf , Hungarian Gócs ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 331 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, part kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains on the upper reaches of the Slaná . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 390 m nm and is eight kilometers from Dobšiná and 17 kilometers from Rožňava .
Neighboring municipalities are Vlachovo in the north, Hnilec in the northeast, Gemerská Poloma in the east, Nižná Slaná in the south and Kobeliarovo in the west.
history
Gočovo was founded as a shepherd's settlement in the 14th century, but it was first mentioned in writing as Bowch in 1427 . In the same year, the Bebek family owned 11 porta in the village. From the 16th to the 20th century, the owners came from the Andrássy family . In 1570 most of the inhabitants fled from the Ottoman troops, 1709–1710, according to the church chronicles, around 600 people died in a plague epidemic.
In 1774 a hammer mill was established in Gočovo. In 1828 there were 76 houses and 607 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds and farmers, but also as miners, charcoal burners and wheel makers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Gočovo had 387 inhabitants, including 359 Slovaks , seven Roma , four Magyars and one Ukrainian . 16 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
247 residents committed themselves to the Evangelical Church AB, 31 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Reformed Church and one resident each to the Mormons and the Orthodox Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 78 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 26 residents was not determined.
