Gemerská Panica (until 1948 Slovak "Gemerská Panita" - to 1927 "Panita" or "Panitová"; Hungarian Gömörpanyit ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 619 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Rožňava of, a part Košický kraj , heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Rimavská kotlina basin , part of the larger Juhoslovenská kotlina , on the left bank of the Slaná , near the border with Hungary . The center of the village is at an altitude of 194  m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Tornaľa and 27 kilometers from Rožňava .

Neighboring municipalities are Čoltovo in the north, Tornaľa in the southeast, Gemer in the south and Bretka in the west.

history

Protestant church

Gemerská Panica was first mentioned in writing in 1247 as a ponyth . In the Middle Ages there were two separate places, which were named, for example, in 1336 as Olsoupanich and Felseupanych (German about Unter- and Ober-Panica). In 1427, when the families Tornallyay and Kompolthy owned local estates , a tax of 32 Porta was due for both towns together . During the tenure of Sághy in the 16th century, both places merged. During the time of the Turkish invasions and the Rákoczi uprising, there was devastation and depopulation. Until serfdom was abolished in 1848, the community belonged to several noble families. In 1828 there were 95 houses and 644 inhabitants who were employed as lime burners, charcoal burners, farmers and bricklayers.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

population

According to the 2011 census, 660 inhabitants lived in Gemerská Panica, including 360 Slovaks , 269 Magyars , nine Roma , three Czechs and two Ukrainians . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 32 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

224 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 75 residents to the Reformed Church, 71 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 13 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, eight residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, six residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 157 residents had no denomination and 104 residents had no denomination.

traffic

The 1st order road 16 ( E 58 ) passes near Gemerská Panica on the way from Zvolen to Košice .

To the north-east of the town there is a stop on the Bánréve – Dobšiná railway line (part of the southern Slovak railway line), but without regular passenger traffic.
