The municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the Slaná Valley . With the exception of the valley, the municipal area of more than 37 km² is mountainous, with the eastern part in the Volovské vrchy mountains and the highest mountain Babiná ( 1277  m nm ) and the western part in the Stolické vrchy . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 397  m nm and is seven kilometers by road from Dobšiná and 19 kilometers by road from Rožňava .

history

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1427 as Alahpathaka and Lampertfalva . It is assumed that miners from the nearby town of Dobschau founded the place around 1300 and that it was a mining village in the Middle Ages. The old name is derived either from the name of the mayor or from the patronage. In the early 15th century, geldings were invited to settle in the village and the surrounding mountains. According to a register from 1427, 40 porta were due.

In the course of time, however, both miners and geldings lose their rights, as a result of the increased natural needs of the Bebek family, who were the local rulers. In 1566 the place, like others in the area, was devastated by the Turks. At the end of the 16th century he came to the dominion of the Krásna Hôrka castle and thus to the Andrássy dynasty, which remained important until the 20th century.

In modern times, apart from agriculture and mining, hammer mills were also important. In the 17th century there were two hammer mills and at the beginning of the 19th century there were even four hammer mills and four furnaces. In 1828 there were 967 inhabitants. In 1843 a blast furnace was built that worked until the end of the 19th century. In 1904 a devastating fire broke out, to which almost the entire village fell victim and in the aftermath, many residents emigrated.
