Victor Meyer Rawicz

Victor Meyer Rawicz (born August 19, 1846 in Breslau , † October 10, 1915 in Berlin ) was a German rabbi .

Life

Rawicz studied at the Wroclaw Jewish Theological Seminary and trained as a rabbi. He took up his first job as a rabbi in Kempen in 1874, before going to Schmieheim as a district rabbi in 1876. At his request, the district rabbinate was relocated to Offenburg in 1893, where Rawicz also gave religious instruction in secondary schools and inspected religious instruction in the rural communities in his district. In 1884 he founded the Jewish literary association "Harmonie". Rawicz often turned against anti-Semitic tendencies in the empire. He published several translations of tracts from the Babylonian Talmud. In total he was the district rabbinate for 37 years. In 1913 he moved to Berlin.
